In addition to looking good in white, Rafa Nadal is an ardent Real Madrid fan. Could the tennis player take the step to become the president of Real Madrid?

Several media outlets have echoed this rumour since Rafa s retirement. Even the Catalan tennis player and friend of Nadal, Alex Corretja, told Diario AS this month: I do not rule out that Nadal could become president of Real Madrid. Once he finishes his career, he will have time to decide and learn what managing an entity like Real Madrid entails. From there, I’m convinced that he can contribute greatly wherever he goes. I wouldn’t be surprised.”

The rumours of Nadal’s RMCF presidency

Nadal has been a fan of the club for as long as anyone can remember, and whenever he has had the chance, he has supported the team from the stands. Most recently, he attended the Champions League match in Liverpool where the Madrid side lost 2-0 to the Reds.

This isn’t the first time the Mallorcan has ventured into other paths. In addition to the Rafa Nadal Academy, he is involved in multi-million-pound investments in the real estate, tourism, and restaurant sectors. He is adept at diversifying his portfolio and manages assets through his private investment firm, Mabel Capital. Nadal also shares stakes with other prominent businessmen in Spain, Portugal, the United States, Bahrain, and Riyadh.

Mabel Capital’s investments span a variety of sectors. Who would have thought that Rafa s ventures would extend to the world of entertainment? In 2022, Nadal was involved in the production of Georgina Rodríguez’s Netflix docuseries and Tamara Falcó s La Marquesa.

Why Nadal could be a good president of Real Madrid?

So, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Mallorcan took an even more challenging step as the future president of Real Madrid. It would seem a natural progression in his career as a sportsman and businessman. On the one hand, he possesses the determination and discipline honed during his years as an elite tennis player, along with the unwavering support of the sporting world. On the other hand, Rafa has benefitted from excellent financial advice throughout his career.

However, the most compelling reason might be prestige. Rafa has matured into a leader capable of revitalising a struggling team and steering it towards success. Or perhaps it’s simply a matter of personal ambition – after all, Nadal once dreamed of becoming a footballer before he pursued tennis.

For now, these are just rumours, fuelled by the team’s poor performance, the potential retirement of Florentino Pérez, and Nadal’s own exit from the Grand Slam circuit. But, as the saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
