EVERY year on November 25, Spain observes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25N).
Almería takes to the streets for 25N
This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the global issue of gender-based violence and honouring the victims who have lost their lives. Across the country, people participate in marches, protests, and various activities to demand an end to gender violence and promote gender equality.
Two marches, one powerful message
In Almería, hundreds of people gathered in the city centre on this significant day to show their support. Two separate marches took place, one organized by the Feminist Collective Coordinator of Almería and the other by the Feminist Action Platform of Almería. Both marches attracted around 800 participants in total, according to the National Police.
Chants and banners highlight urgency for change
The streets were filled with chants like ‘If you’re tired of hearing it, we’re tired of living it.’ The marches snaked through Avenida Federico García and Calle Obispo Orberá, with participants holding signs and banners calling for action.
Remembering the victims: 83 women lost this year
The rally also paid tribute to the 83 women killed in Spain this year. The protests emphasised the importance of feminist education, protecting women’s rights, and fighting the normalisation of violence. As the march concluded, the powerful message rang out: ‘We’ve learned they prefer us silent, but let me tell you, not even the dead stay quiet.’
