VERA has been named the ‘Best Blue Destination 2024’ at the Sun Blue Congress, an event that celebrates sustainable tourism linked to the sea and coastal areas.
Year-round tourism: A new era for Vera
The town won the award for its ‘Tus Playas de Invierno’ (Your Winter Beaches) program, which offers a range of activities like yoga, beach volleyball, Pilates, outdoor painting, and more, drawing visitors to Vera throughout the year.
Vera’s mild winter climate: Perfect for outdoor adventures
This project, which runs from October to May, aims to make the most of Vera’s mild winter climate and beautiful natural surroundings, offering a refreshing alternative to traditional summer tourism. Activities focused on health and wellbeing not only promote outdoor living but also boost the local economy, especially for restaurants, shops, and other businesses.
Supporting local businesses through sustainable tourism
Vera’s mayor, Alfonso García Ramos, thanked everyone involved in making the program a success. He emphasised how the project has helped make Vera a year-round destination, supporting local businesses while preserving the town’s natural beauty. With more activities and extended dates planned for 2024, the town is excited to attract even more visitors and continue its path toward sustainable tourism.
Top Places to Visit in Vera
Vera is not just about its beautiful beaches; the town offers a variety of spots that showcase its rich history and stunning landscapes. For history fans, the Vera Castle, dating back to the 16th century, is a must-see, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. Nature lovers will appreciate the nearby Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, known for its rugged cliffs and unique flora and fauna.
For a more laid-back experience, the charming old town of Vera boasts quaint streets and traditional Andalucian architecture, with local cafes serving delicious tapas. And, of course, the stunning beaches, like Playa de Puerto Rey and Playa de Vera, provide the perfect setting to unwind while enjoying the mild winter sun.
