UFC star Conor McGregor is reportedly set to return to Dublin’s High Court in January for a legal battle with former friend and ex-MMA fighter Artem Lobov, aka The Russian Hammer .

This lawsuit comes just weeks after McGregor lost a sexual assault civil case brought against him by Nikita Hand, which cost him €250,000 and damaged his reputation, including certain supermarkets and brands refusing to be associated with McGregor anymore. McGregor has stated on social media that he is planning to appeal the rape case decision.

Artem Lobov vs. Conor McGregor in court

Russian Lobov lives in Dublin and holds a master’s degree in business. He claims that McGregor’s whiskey brand, Proper Twelve, was his invention. Speaking to talkSPORT, Lobov detailed his role in the whiskey’s creation, stating: “I told him about the dominance of Irish whiskey… I did my research and put a beautiful deal together.”

According to MMA Mania, Lobov convinced McGregor to pivot from vodka to Irish whiskey, emphasising its market potential. This is going to be a billion-dollar deal, Lobov reportedly told McGregor.

Lobov claims that McGregor initially promised him a 5 per cent stake in the business for his efforts, which included extensive negotiations with distributors and distilleries. However, when McGregor sold most of his stake in Proper Twelve for an estimated €150 million in 2021, Lobov says he received none of the proceeds.

Reports suggest the legal battle could cost McGregor up to €8 million if he loses.

With Lobov determined to secure what he sees as his rightful share, and McGregor’s financial and public reputation on the line, this high-profile dispute is set to dominate headlines in the new year.

This case highlights the complexities of business partnerships and the importance of clear agreements in high-stake ventures.
