MasterChef co-host Gregg Wallace is temporarily stepping away from his role following serious allegations of inappropriate behaviour over a 17-year period. The claims, involving multiple individuals, are currently under investigation by the show’s production company, Banijay UK.
Gregg Wallace faces investigation over historic misconduct allegations
The allegations include inappropriate sexual comments, unprofessional conduct, and uncomfortable interactions with colleagues across five different TV productions from 2005 to 2022.
BBC News reported that 13 individuals have come forward with claims, including instances of sexualised jokes during filming.
One former colleague accused Wallace of sharing topless photos and requesting massages, while another alleged he made comments about not wearing underwear.
BBC documents from a 2018 HR investigation into Wallace’s behaviour on Impossible Celebrities described his actions as both unacceptable and unprofessional.
Kirsty Wark, a former Celebrity MasterChef contestant, recounted incidents where Wallace told sexualised jokes on set, stating such remarks were really, really in the wrong place.
Banijay UK launches external review into Gregg Wallace misconduct claims
Banijay UK has initiated an independent investigation to address the allegations. In a statement, the company emphasised its commitment to maintaining high standards of workplace conduct and encouraged those with concerns to come forward: “While these allegations are historical, our duty of care remains paramount. We are conducting a thorough external review to ensure these claims are fully and impartially investigated.”
Wallace has agreed to fully cooperate with the investigation.
The company prioritises providing safe and respectful environments on set, offering both direct and anonymous reporting channels.
Episodes of MasterChef: The Professionals featuring Wallace, which were pre-recorded, will continue to air as scheduled.
Wallace, 60, has been a prominent face on British television since 2002, hosting and appearing on popular shows such as Saturday Kitchen, Eat Well For Less, and Inside the Factory. He has co-hosted MasterChef since 2005, helping to grow the brand into an international phenomenon.
Despite his achievements, including being recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2022, these allegations have cast a shadow over his career.
The investigation is ongoing, and industry insiders will be closely monitoring its outcomes.
