December is a busy month for the Spanish royal family, as they are under watchful eyes to ensure their duty to participate in international meetings in met.
However, King Felipe and Queen Letizia have their last state trip of the year coming up in December to Italy, an easy one, visiting Rome and Naples. The trip is expected to be a breeze and a less problematic end of the year after the mud slinging in Valencia, with the presentation of portraits by Annie Leibovitz, which have already attracted gasps by many in society.
King Felipe is expected to meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whose controversial father lived on the Spanish island of La Gomera until his death. The King will also receive an honorary doctorate as part of the 800th anniversary of the University of Naples. The trip is part of a good relations exercise between Italy and Spain, and it is a chance to strengthen the deep historical, political, cultural, and human ties between the two countries. Just make sure no one mentions the occupation of Naples and Sicily by Spain in the 18th century (that stuff runs deep in the region).
Pomp, circumstance, cool of high society Roman life
A gala dinner in Rome will take place on December 11, with José Manuel Albares, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, accompanying the royals. King Felipe will address the community of over 30,000 Spaniards living in Italy and make a floral offering for the fallen in the wars. The gala dinner will conclude with a night full of pomp and circumstance, plus all the glamour and cool of high society Roman life.
This will be Queen Letizia s second state visit to Italy, as it was one of the first destinations they officially visited after the crowning of Philip VI in 2014.
