Known as Spain s largest network of low-cost, fully automated petrol stations, Petroprix plans to open 50 petrol stations in Portugal by 2026, with three already in operation.
Negocios reported that Petroprix’s third Portuguese station launched in Matosinhos on November 27, 2024, following earlier openings in Águeda and Covilhã. The company prides itself on keeping costs low through fully automated, self-service stations that operate 24/7 and integrate their registered app for price checks and fuel payments.
By cutting operational costs, Petroprix offers fuel prices between 10 to 15 cents lower than competitors like Galp, BP, and Repsol. For instance, simple diesel currently sells at €1.479 per litre and simple petrol at €1.559 per litre, according to the company.
Petroprix is offering discounted fuel during Black Weekend via their App
Petroprix is extending its “Black Weekend” campaign to Portugal from November 29 to December 1, offering an additional five-cent-per-litre discount at all its stations. To participate, customers must download the Petroprix app, register their vehicle, and refuel using the app. Discounts are capped at four refillings per car, per day. Additionally, new app users receive a welcome offer of three free litres of fuel on their first fill-up – a perk that cannot be combined with other promotions.
Petroprix plans to open 20 new stations in 2025, focusing on major cities like Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra, with the Algarve slated for inclusion by 2026. The investment in these stations, each costing between €400,000 and €500,000, totals €10 million for next year alone.
Petroprix offers cost-effective fuel options
CEO Manuel Santiago explained to ECO that Petroprix s entry into Portugal has been well-received, noting, “Portuguese customers actively seek lower prices, especially given higher fuel taxes compared to Spain.” This announcement comes shortly after a recent hike in the national average selling price of Petrol in Portugal. Prices were higher in Portugal than the EU average in the second quarter of 2023.
With its commitment to affordability and innovation, Petroprix aims to replicate its Spanish success in Portugal. As Petroprix continues its rollout, locals and expats in Portugal can look forward to cost-effective fuel options, making it easier to manage budgets amid the rising cost of living.
