Recovery and clean-up efforts continue in the Comares region as Red Cross and other organizations as well as local volunteers work tirelessly to clear the mud and excess water
It s been two weeks since the heavens opened in Comares and the DANA brought heavy flooding to the region. For some it might be a distant memory, yet solidarity efforts involved in the clean-up operation have been non-stop.
Red Cross and other volunteers work tirelessly for two weeks in Comares
The region also known as the ‘Balcony of Axarquía,’ is still caked in mud, yet continues to be the point where hands on help, generosity and resilience join forces. Troops from the Red Cross, other organizations and volunteers from Málaga have been pitching in, working tirelessly to clear the region of mud and debris. There is light at the end of the tunnel as substantial work has been done but this doesn’t mean that the exceptional group of volunteers have taken their foot off the pedal.
On November 13, the municipality saw 200 liters per square meter fall in the space of a few hours. Since then, and cooperating with the City Council, these volunteers have been a shining example of the stellar efforts to remove mud from garages, homes and other public spaces.
Cooperation and gratitude from Mayor and residents in Comares
In Comares, cooperation and gratitude stand out. Terry Sargent from Los Pérez neighbourhood said: We cannot thank the City Council enough for the collaboration.”
Comares Councillor, José Miguel Ruiz, mirrored the thanks: “I especially want to express gratitude on behalf of the entire town to the people who have been involved in the help that two weeks later we are still demanding.”
