Storm Conall has caused disruptions at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, plus heavy rainfall in the northern coastal areas of the Netherlands.
The storm, officially the second of this autumn and the sixth of 2024, arrived in the Netherlands after sweeping across the UK, where it dropped two weeks’ worth of rain in some areas.
According to Dutch News, wind speeds reached up to 114 kph. The KNMI weather desk has warned that winds could intensify further, potentially reaching 130 kph.
Flights cancelled at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport due to Storm Conall
70 flights were cancelled at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport due to rough weather, as reported by Metro. Ferry services to the Wadden Sea islands have also been suspended.
Northern regions experienced extensive traffic jams, with delays stretching to 900 kilometres by 4.30 pm as commuters hurried home. Train services have also faced disruptions. The KNMI issued an amber weather warning for the north, while Gelderland, Utrecht, and Zuid-Holland remain under a yellow alert. The southern provinces are largely unaffected.
Storm Conall moving to Germany
As Storm Conall passes through, it is expected to move into Germany later this evening. Travellers are advised to check updates before leaving home.
