Royal scandal: Son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit released from custody following rape allegation

Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, will be released from custody following his arrest last week on rape allegations.
However, Oslo police have launched a separate investigation into a new alleged sexual offence, for which he has not been charged. Details of the new case have not yet been disclosed.
Borg Høiby, stepson of Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit’s son from a previous relationship holds no royal title or official responsibilities. He was arrested in Oslo on a preliminary charge of engaging in sexual activity with someone who was unconscious or otherwise unable to resist. A preliminary charge allows authorities to detain a suspect during the investigation phase without formal charges.
Marius Borg Høiby Denies Accusation
Police have not disclosed when the alleged rape took place but indicated that “the victim must have been unable to resist.” Norwegian media, NRK, reported that Borg Høiby denies the accusation.
Prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski stated that during Borg Høiby’s week in custody, police reviewed seized evidence and conducted numerous witness interviews, as reported by Norwegian news agency NTB.
Despite this, authorities decided against extending his detention, citing no risk of evidence being tampered with, according to NRK.
“This outcome was expected. He shouldn’t have been detained in the first place,” said Borg Høiby’s defence attorney, Øyvind Bratlien, in a statement to NRK. Borg Høiby was expected to be released later on Wednesday.
