Some may say that it’s a rather strange year to pick for a Jubilee celebration but the Catholic Church will be 2025 next year and the Vatican isn’t pulling any punches.
Vatican celebrates 2025 years with a mascot which appeals to the young
Firstly, in order to attract youngsters to the Catholic Church, the Vatican has created a cartoon character Luce (Light) which will appear at a Comic Convention and according to Archbishop Rino Fisichella, this mascot is part of the Vatican’s goal to engage with “the pop culture so beloved by our young people.”
Wearing a yellow raincoat, mud-stained boots, and a pilgrim’s cross, Luce’s mission is to guide young pilgrims toward hope and faith with her trusty dog Santino at her side. Shells glimmer in her eyes, recalling the scallop shell of the Camino de Santiago, an emblem of the pilgrimage journey.

A whole year of celebrations which will see Rome have to cope with tens of millions of pilgrims
The Vatican is expecting up to 32 million pilgrims and visitors during 2025 which means that as all of them will have to arrive and depart through Rome as well as finding accommodation in the Eternal City, the Italian Government has been working hard trying to arrange the upgrading of Rome’s infrastructure.
Webcams will be centred on St Peter s Tomb and the Holy Door to the Basilica
The Vatican is to install a live webcam at St Peter s Tomb as part of a series of technological initiatives being undertaken by the Holy See for the Jubilee Year 2025 although whether it expects to see the appearance of the first Pope is unlikely but the livestream will be inaugurated by Pope Francis on December 2
To actually launch Holy Year, a webcam will be installed on the basilica s door, which Pope Francis will open on Christmas Eve and this is important as according to tradition, pilgrims who travel to Rome and pass through the Holy Doors may obtain a plenary indulgence (forgiveness for one’s sins).
